This Grass Tree Root Vase is hand-turned from two rare, exotic kinds of wood.
The main shape of the vase is made from Grass Tree root is derived exclusively from one particular species of grass tree in Australia. The unusual dotted pattern across the surface is left by the centre marks of the previous leaves. It is especially difficult to turn, which makes this an extraordinary work of art.
The foot of this vase is made from Hyedua, an evergreen tree that is native to tropical West Africa. It is a beautiful colour of dark yellow/brown, with blackish veins and copper glints. The wood is hard and heavy, which is ideal for its use as a base.
