Our senior restorer John Griffiths recently made a discovery, which has been both exciting for us and captured the public's imagination.
The company was asked to restore a writing slope (pictured right) which had been bought at auction in Windermere 50 years ago and since handed down three generations.
John was delighted to disover a cunning and complex hidden compartment in which there were some love letters, written over 150 years ago from 1854 to 1856.
They were from a George Ridehalgh to Fanny Reade. We were unaware
of the family history of the couple or why they needed to keep the letters secret. The Daily Telegraph has since taken up the story and found out who they were.
